SDI OPEN WATER SCUBA INSTRUCTOR

The SDI Open Water Scuba Diver Instructor (OWSDI) course is designed to teach current Divemasters or Assistant Instructors certified with a recognized dive training organization the knowledge to effectively function as an open water scuba diver instructor. This program is divided into two sections, an instructor development course (IDC) and an instructor evaluation course (IEC).
The Training
The SDI Open Water Scuba Diver Instructor course consists of:
- Online learning and knowledge development – Once you have signed up for the course we will provide you with an online code enabling you to study the core competencies including areas such as:
- Products and procedures
- Methods of instruction
- Instructor ethics
- Physics and physiology of diving
- You will then join us at the center to begin your practical training, you will be equipped with a full set of teaching slates, instructor guides and manuals
- With your Course Director you will then carry out multiple skills development and training sessions including:
- Preparing and delivering classroom presentations
- Control and planning of diving activities
- Rescue and assistance skills
- Confined water skills demonstrations
- Presentation of confined and open water classes
- Physical fitness through swim and float tests
- Upon completion of all aspects you will then be enrolled in an Instructor Evaluation Course with an SDI Instructor Trainer who will then assess your development. Once you have passed this 2 day evaluation you will become a qualified Open Water Scuba Diving Instructor with the ability to teach the following courses:
- SDI Open Water Scuba Diver
- SDI Advanced Adventure Diver
- SDI Rescue Diver
- SDI Computer Diver
- SDI Divemaster
- SDI Assistant Instructor
Pre-requisites
- Age: 18 years and above
- Certified diver for a minimum of 6 months
- Provide proof of 100 logged dives completed in a number of different environments with varying depths
- Be certified as a SDI Divemaster, SDI Assistant Instructor, or equivalent
- Provide proof of current CPR, first aid and oxygen provider certifications
