SDI DRYSUIT DIVER CERTIFICATION

Transparent SDI Logo Color

The SDI Drysuit Diver Course will open up a whole new world of diving to you. Many of the diving environments around the world are better experienced in a drysuit. Why? These areas have an abundance of marine life waiting to be seen and photographed – they just happen to be a little colder! Drysuits are also used in tropical water during the cooler months.

This course allows the student to develop the knowledge and skills to properly use a drysuit. It will discuss the types of drysuits, accessories, maintenance and how to make basic repairs.

The Training

The SDI Drysuit Course includes two parts:

  • Online learning – Once you have signed up for the course, we will provide you a code to sign up for the online learning in advance of your practical training to work through at home. You will then go through key areas in greater detail with your instructor and cover areas such as:
    • Different types and the key features of a variety of drysuits and undergarments
    • Basic care and repair of a drysuit
    • Drysuit emergencies
    • Buoyancy control in a drysuit
  • Confined water training – Before we take you out to deeper water, your instructor will go through a shallow water session to familiarise you with the drysuit, make basic weighting adjustments and practise emergency drills in a controlled environment.
  • Open water training – Once we have got you comfortable (and hopefully still dry!), you will then join your instructor for 2 open water dives where you will cover the following plus much more:
    • Buoyancy check and skills
    • Rolling from an inverted position
    • Emergency procedures

What to expect:

After signing up for your course, one of our team will be in contact to send your e-learning information and joining instructions in plenty of time to complete ahead of your practical training.

On the day of your practical training you will meet us at our centre in Larnaca to sort paperwork and get you sized up for any equipment you may need. We will then take you up to Aiya Napa region for the day to complete 2 open water dives in sites no deeper than 15 metres. On the first dive we will concentrate on getting you comfortable and correctly weighted and get you familiar with the suit itself so you can easily add and remove gas. On the second we will move on to some slightly more advanced buoyancy skills and ensuring you are proficient in emergency drills to arrest ascents in the event of drysuit over inflation.

On route to the site we will give you the option of stopping at a local bakery to pick up lunch and ensure you have plenty of water with you to stay hydrated throughout the day. All being well, we plan to be back at the centre between 2pm and 3pm. If you are staying in Aiya Napa we can also arrange to meet you in the area to save you travelling backwards and forwards.

Training is personal and unique to the individual so we have a maximum of 3 students per instructor, in a course with children then these ratios are reduced further. This allows for 1 t0 1 attention, a relaxed pace and a much more enjoyable atmosphere.
