SDI ADVANCED BUOYANCY CONTROL CERTIFICATION

Transparent SDI Logo Color

True buoyancy control has the ability to transform a diver’s experience underwater, improving air consumption, comfort and level of enjoyment. This specialty is designed to increase the open water diver’s understanding of the factors that influence buoyancy through effective weighting, trim, breath control and finning techniques. The added benefits to the marine environment cannot be overstated!

There is nothing quite like the feeling of being able to effortlessly glide through a wreck or get up close and personal for that great photo. The Advanced Buoyancy Control Specialty can help you do just that!

The Training

The SDI Advanced Buoyancy Control course includes two parts:

  • Pre-course study – once you have signed up for the course, we will provide you with a manual in advance of your practical training to work through at home. You will then go through key areas in greater detail with your instructor and cover areas such as:
    • Selecting the right equipment
    • Conducting effective buoyancy checks
    • BCD vs lung buoyancy control
  • Practical training – Once you are familiar with the keys to improving your buoyancy control, we will put your knowledge into action in 2 shallow water dives with an instructor where you will fine-tune your buoyancy with the following skills plus many others:
    • Hovering techniques
    • Weighting adjustments and trimming techniques
    • Efficient finning methods
    • Streamlining your scuba equipment

What to expect:

After signing up for your course, one of our team will be in contact to send your e-learning information and joining instructions in plenty of time to complete ahead of your practical training.

On the day of your practical training you will meet us at our centre in Larnaca to sort paperwork and get you sized up for any equipment you may need. We will then take you up to Aiya Napa region for the day to complete 2 open water dives in sites no deeper than 15 metres. On the first dive we will conduct a basic skills review to get you comfortable and then move on to getting you correctly weighted, we will then follow this up on the 2nd dive with some more in depth buoyancy practise skills and games follow by a bit of a dive at the end to ensure you are comfortable.

On route to the site we will give you the option of stopping at a local bakery to pick up lunch and ensure you have plenty of water with you to stay hydrated throughout the day. All being well, we plan to be back at the centre between 2pm and 3pm. If you are staying in Aiya Napa we can also arrange to meet you in the area to save you travelling backwards and forwards.

Training is personal and unique to the individual so we have a maximum of 3 students per instructor, in a course with children then these ratios are reduced further. This allows for 1 t0 1 attention, a relaxed pace and a much more enjoyable atmosphere.
