TDI ADVANCED WRECK

Logo_TDI_Combo_Color_Small_RGB_v0217

The TDI Advanced Wreck course is one of the best courses taught on the Zenobia wreck due to its size and penetration possibilities. Throughout the course, we are able to provide you a huge variety of wreck experience to truly give you a well rounded training course. This program includes penetration skills and techniques along with how to deal with in wreck emergencies such as silt out, lost lines and gas emergencies. Depths shall not exceed the level in which the diver is trained and competent, but in no case shall the maximum depth exceed 55m. The objective of this course is to train divers in the proper techniques, equipment requirements and hazards of wreck diving.

The Training

  • At home study – once you have signed up for the course, we will provide you with a manual in advance of your practical training to work through at home. You will then go through key areas in greater detail with your instructor and cover areas such as plus many others:
    • Use of advanced wreck diving equipment
    • Wreck penetration procedures
    • Proper trim, buoyancy and propulsion techniques
  • Classroom – Classroom training – After you have reviewed the key knowledge areas and ready to go you will then join your instructor for the practical element of your training and cover the following areas:
    • Equipment selection
    • Stress analysis and mitigation
    • Contingency planning
  • Practical training – After you have covered the key knowledge through the online learning, you will then join your instructor for 6 open water dives where you will cover the following plus much more:
    • Navigation and emergency procedures
    • Manifold isolation and shutdown drills
    • Silt-out procedures

What to expect:

Following signing up for the course we will organise to send you the TDI Advanced Wreck student manual so you have plenty of time to complete the study before joining us for your practical training.

The training takes place over 5 days with a minimum of 6 dives required alongside theory, dive + gas planning session and classroom reviews. On certain days due to the nature of the dives we will only be conducting 1 dive per day, whereas on others there will be 2 completed. The days are pretty extensive starting between 7 and 7:15am to get the dives done, with the afternoons being used for the classroom sessions.

All dives are conducted in either twinset or sidemount configuration with a decompression stage to allow for long dive times and deeper profiles to ensure we can give you the most well rounded training experience. All dives are conducted on the Zenobia in a variety of different sections including areas such as accommodation and the crew quarters alongside others at the instructors discretion. In between the dives you will spend time in the classroom with your instructor going into detail on dive planning using decompression software and creating back-up decompression schedules. Due to the skill heavy nature of the course we only teach at a maximum of 2:1 ratio to allow adequate practice time for each student, increase safety and enjoyment.

The course is very unique and will push you past the limits of your comfort zone, it is generally not aimed at those who may suffer from claustrophobia or spending large amounts of time in complete darkness. It is a very challenging course and should not be taken lightly as much as most describe it as the most fun course they have ever taken it definitely tests your limits!

It is important to note that technical diving and training is never one to be taken lightly, you are now looking into a level of diving which requires a lot more study, discipline and, most importantly, accepted risk than you will have experienced at any of your previous levels of recreational training. As a result, as much as we want you to enjoy your training we also want you to take it seriously for your own safety and those who you choose to undertake this diving with in the future. Please note passing this course is not a given and does require your full attention, if for whatever reason we are asking you to extend your training or go and build experience before continuing we are doing this purely in your interest and safety.

Sorry to be heavy, but it is best to be up front!
