Are you ready to join the ranks of the dedicated professionals who teach the world's most progressive and popular scuba diver education programs? Then Go PROSM with an Instructor Development Course

How do I begin?

You start with the training materials. We will provide you with the PADI IDC crewpack and depending on when you did your PADI Divemaster course, the Dive Theory online code to brush up on your theory prior to the start of your training.

What's in the course?

The Go-Pro course teaches you to conduct all PADI core courses. You'll take your Assistant Instructor course first, followed by the Instructor Development (IDC) and then the all-important Instructor Examination (IE). You'll be taught to organise and present information, conduct skill development sessions and control open water dives. Basically, you become a better public speaker and get really good at demonstrating skills while watching out for student diver safety. Key topics include:

  • PADI Standards and Procedures for courses you can teach with in water workshops
  • Learning, Instruction and the PADI System
  • Risk Management and Diver Safety
  • The Business of Diving and your role as an instructor
  • Marketing Diving and Sales Counselling

How long does it take?

The full Go-Pro package takes 17 days, from beginning to completion of the IE.

What qualifications do I need?

A PADI Divemaster who has been a certified diver for six months may enrol in the PADI Instructor Development Course. You also need:

  • At least 60 logged dives and 100 dives to attend an IE.
  • Emergency First Response Primary and Secondary Care (CPR and First Aid) training within the past 24 months.
  • A medical statement signed by a physician within the last 12 months

You also need to be an Emergency First Response Instructor, but you will earn this rating during your instructor training.

Dive professionals who hold an instructor rating with another diver training organisation may be eligible to enrol directly in the OWSI program. This recognises prior instructor training and provides a path to become a PADI Instructor.

What's next?

Once you have attained the level of PADI instructor, you really can begin to "live the dream". Your qualification will be recognised throughout the world, giving you the choice of thousands of work locations around the world, whether you decide to move to a new country permanently or use your qualification to work your way around the world. Once you start teaching courses then you can start working your way up the PADI ladder to Staff Instructor or maybe even Course director one day.
