DAN Basic Life Support (BLS)

DAN Basic Life Support course represents entry-level training designed to educate persons in providing Basic Life Support techniques to adult victims with life threatening injuries, while activating the local medical services.
Training
- Knowledge Development – Once you have signed up for the course, we will provide you with a digital CD manual to read and complete the relevant knowledge reviews before your practical training
- Classroom and practical training. At the end of this programme participants will cover areas including the following plus many others:
- Basic Anatomy and Physiology
- Recognise danger and perform a Scene Safety Assessment
- Protect themselves against cross infection
- Chest compressions and ventilations
- The advantage of oxygen during resuscitation
- Providing care for choking
- The function of the blood
- Provide care for (severe) external bleeding
- Recognising and treating shock
- Name at least 3 causes of shock
Prerequisites
Student level:
- A DAN Basic Life Support provider or equivalent qualification is required
Instructor level:

- The Instructor Candidate must have completed the Instructor Qualification course (IQC) and:
- Be a certified and active scuba diving Instructor (or Divemaster/Assistant Instructor with current CPR training)
- Be a current DAN Basic Life Support provider
- Have current training in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR)
- Have documentation of first aid training
- Be a current DAN Member
